Mail Server Working!

by edo on August 26, 2009

It might be a small accomplishment to some, but I’m very happy. I finally got a mailserver up and running on my ‘host’. This means, if you’ve been trying to send me emails and they’ve gotten rejected, … no longer. I’ve tested the forwarding accounts and everything is cool.

Yeah, I just route my mail to alternate accounts, depending on who you send it to. This lets me sort and centralize my e-mails.

Technical Tip:

If you ever decide to use postfix and set up forward, AND if you use gmail, don’t do this.

  1. Send test e-mail to account from gmail account.
  2. Set forward on destination account to gmail account you send from in 1.

Why? Well for some reason, if you send an email from gmail and the email address forwards it back to the same (sending) gmail account, the email is dropped. This makes it hard to test forward unless you have an alternate account. Trust me. I banged my head into this problem for hours, thinking I had messed up the install or config. Nope. Just gmail, protecting me from spam. 8-O

Note – If you’re still reading. I’ve got a bunch of exciting and free stuff coming soon. Updates to TSTK as well as an add-on/starter kit for TGB. Keep you eyes open.
